Porto close in on former Sporting CP attacker Yannick Djalo

Former Sporting CP striker Yannick Djalo is poised to sign for Porto, Correio da Manha claims.

The 25-year-old had joined Nice on the last day of the summer transfer window, but Fifa rejected the transfer as the paperwork pertaining to the move arrived at the Ligue 1 side’s headquarters after midnight.

Weeks later, Nice saw their appeal rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which forced the French club to call off the deal and ship the player back to Sporting, where he has no room in coach Domingos Paciencia’s plans.

Djalo had indicated on his Facebook page that a move to Aston Villa was close at hand, but it is believed that talks with the Premier League side have broken down.

Meanwhile, Joaquim Evangelista, president of the players’ union, has said that Djalo is currently not contracted to any club and has revealed the 25-year-old is considering taking Nice to court.

“Djalo is a free player and, therefore, it is up to him to decide his future and the solution that he thinks is best,” he told Radio Renascenca.

“He terminated his contract unilaterally and with just cause and he is pondering suing Nice, so that he is paid what he is entitled to and was written in the contract.”

Djalo, who has one Portugal cap to his name, broke into Sporting’s senior team in 2005.
