Benfica close in on Barcelona’s Jonathan Soriano

Benfica have begun negotiations with the hope of signing Barcelona B striker Jonathan Soriano, O JOGO reports.

The Portuguese club have long been after the 26-year-old, who has struggled to break into Barca’s first team.

Benfica tried to sign Soriano during the summer transfer window, but a serious knee injury cooled the club’s interest in the Spanish frontman.

With Soriano’s contract expiring at the end of the season, the former Espanyol man is free to discuss his future with any club, and it is believed that Benfica are again eager to sign the striker.

In October, Soriano’s agent was quoted as saying that Benfica had ‘a high chance’ of landing the player, who has been at Barca since 2009.

During the summer, the Catalan club lost Nolito to Benfica on a free transfer and the 25-year-old has gone on to become a regular first-team member in Jorge Jesus’ side.
