Italian giants Juventus are reportedly willing to cough €11 million in order to land Colombian International Fredy Guarin, who is valued at around €13 million by FC Porto.
Fredy Guarin, 25, has been on the radar of top Italian clubs this summer. The former Envigado man is reported to be a target of AS Roma and Juventus, who have taken notice of his situation in Liga Sagres.
The midfielder was a regular starter under Andre Villas-Boas in the quadruple winning season, but with the arrival of Vitor Pereira has been unable to make the starting line-up often. The new boss has seemingly favoured the likes of Joao Moutinho and Fernando Belluschi in the centre of the park and with the return of Steven Defour from injury; he has even more options in the position.
As the tactician has been spoilt for choice, Guarin has increasingly spent more time on the sidelines and his unwanted status at the club has attracted several potential suitors from Italy’s top flight.
Manchester City have been scouting Daniele de Rossi as a possible addition to the Etihad Stadium and that has forced AS Roma to search for his successor. The Wolves have reportedly set their sights on the Coffee Growers International and a move was expected to arise depending on de Rossi’s departure.
However the player’s agent ruled out a switch to Stadio Olympico and said that his client was not going to leave Porto, as the club did not want to sell him.
“I would like to point out that Roma have not made any proposals for the player, at least so far. If they are interested, then we are available to talk, but it is also true that Porto do not want to sell the player at this point,” he said.
He also added that Guarin has not been in talks with other sides and as a deal was not in place, he would not be exiting the Primeira Liga.
“If there is no agreement with Roma or any other club, Guarín will not leave Portugal,” Marcelo Ferreyra was quoted as saying.
With the possibility of the former Saint Etienne man plying his trade in Roma colours ruled out, Juventus are keen to step up their interest and acquire his services.
The Bianconeri are set to be without club legend Alessandro del Piero after this term and want to bolster their midfield in his absence. Guarin seems to be their preferred choice and reports suggest that they are willing to cough nearly €11 million to land his services.
FC Porto’s asking price is believed to be in the region of €13 million but with negotiations even that figure could fall in favour of Juve. The player should also be willing to make the switch to Italy, as he faces a tough battle to cement his place at Estadio do Dragao.
