Jorge Fucile must leave FC Porto, says agent

Jorge Fucile’s agent claims that his client has done all he can for the club but now must move on to greener pastures, as he hasn’t been able to gather much playing time at Estadio do Dragao lately.

The defender was heavily favoured by Andre Villas-Boas last term but under the reign of Vitor Pereira he has found game time hard to come by. With Maicon being preferred as a right-back and the likes of Danilo and Cristian Săpunaru battling it out for a place in the starting eleven, Jorge Fucile’s time with the Dragons seems to be up.

His unwanted status at the helm has attracted the attention of several clubs but English Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea are named as the front-runners in the race to acquire his services.

As Fucile is equally at home on either the left or the right, Kenny Dalglish is keen to hire him in order to keep the rest of his wingbacks on their toes. The Scot has been given the green light to sign the Uruguayan from his International teammate, Luis Suarez, who also plys his trade at Anfield.

Chelsea’s ageing team is one of the main reasons, Andre Villas-Boas has been scouring the transfer market this term and the Portuguese tactician is set to be reunited with his former player, after narrowly missing out on Alvaro Pereira.

The player’s agent has now confirmed that his client will be on his way out of FC Porto but did not reveal which club he would be signing for after parting ways with the Portistas.

“The comments of the coach have shown that he will not use Fucile on the right-side of the team. He has been unfortunate.”

“I believe that Jorge Fucile has fulfilled his tasks at FC Porto and now must leave. We will make every effort to get his transfer done quickly, but there are always obstacles and difficulties that clubs put up,” Pablo Tamaduz was quoted as saying.

With a number of top clubs on his trail, Jorge Fucile is set to leave Portugal and could possibly end up in England if Chelsea and Liverpool step up their interest.
