Just what is Villas-Boas doing drawing the fifth round of the Scottish Cup?

It’s widely accepted that Chelsea are going through a patch of poor form, their defence could do with some work and the Fernando Torres conundrum needs solving.
So it begs the question, just why is manager Andre Villas-Boas appearing at Hampden Park on Monday to draw the fifth round of the Scottish Cup?

Conducting the draw alongside Villas-Boas is the World Cup and Champions League-winning manager, Marcello Lippi – but the Italian is not currently in charge of a club.

The 2.30pm draw is not the only reason Villas-Boas is in Scotland; both he and Lippi will speak to the Scottish FA’s UEFA Pro License course candidates.

Jim Fleeting, Scottish FA Director of Football Development, said: ‘We are delighted to have two managers of the calibre of Marcello Lippi and Andre Villas-Boas at Hampden on Monday to speak to our UEFA Pro Licence course candidates.

‘I am confident that our candidates will benefit greatly from the visit of two such knowledgeable and experienced coaches.

‘I am sure that both will thoroughly enjoy taking part in the William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round draw during their visit to the National Stadium.’

Villas-Boas studied for his UEFA Pro Licenses in Scotland, so perhaps it is not surprising that he has been asked to speak to students on the course.

But it will be small comfort to Chelsea fans who would rather their boss was busy working on problems a little closer to home.
