ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS insists he can’t give coaching buddy Ally McCoist a helping hand this month.

But the Chelsea boss is still backing McCoist and Rangers for championship glory.

Villas-Boas and McCoist struck up a firm friendship when they were on the same SFA course at Largs three years ago.

The pair were reunited when Rangers hosted Chelsea in a glamour pre-season friendly and the idea of the Scottish champions taking a couple of fringe players on loan was mooted.

Villas-Boas was more than willing to do business back in August but circumstances have changed and McCoist has been told to forget about plundering any of his Stamford Bridge superstars during the transfer window.

However, despite being unable to aid Rangers’ title charge the Chelsea gaffer still feels McCoist has what it takes to win the SPL in his first season as manager.
