Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas denies Alex to QPR rumours

English Premier League side Chelsea have denied rumours that a deal has been agreed with Queens Park Rangers for Brazilian defender Alex.

Reports from earlier this week suggested that an agreement had been reached between the two sides regarding Alex. However, Chelsea have confirmed that is not the case and that they have not reached an agreement with their London rivals.

If the offer from QPR was indeed rejected by Chelsea, it would make it their second offer to be rejected by the Blues in the January transfer window. It seems though that the Rangers are determined to sign the 29-year-old and could return with yet another bid.

A Blues spokesman said in an interview:

“I can say at this time there is no agreement between the clubs.”

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas seemed to agree, claiming that Alex’s market value was much higher than what QPR had offered. He revealed that there had been various offers from both Premier League and European sides for the Brazil international.

After the arrival of David Luiz from Benfica and the departure of manager Carlo Ancelotti, Alex was set on a move away from Stamford Bridge. The player handed in a transfer request after he found himself on the bench for most of the fixtures under Villas-Boas.

The club accepted his transfer request and it seems Alex could be leaving the London club in the current winter transfer window. However, it remains unclear as to where he will be headed with the Blues hesitant on letting him leave for QPR.

According to the Portuguese manager, the Brazilian centre back possessed the sort of quality that would land him at a top club and not a newly promoted Premier League side. He was insistent that he would not let Alex leave as easily as the media has made it out to be.

Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:

“I’m sure that the clubs can reach an agreement if they continue to push. We know Alex’s market value and we’re just not going to let him go quite easily, not that QPR’s offer is far, far off.

He is a player that has attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs and from abroad.”
